Japan has a lot of family names and it kind of makes it hard to remember names because I haven’t grown up with them. However, it is important to start learning names to better remember names and get along using the language. The Japan Times released an article with the top 100 most common family names in japan.

Here are the top 10 please visit the the article for all the rest.

Wow! Interesting stuff. I think I have worked with at least 3 people from each of the surnames. I guess that these are the 'Smith', 'Jones' and 'Brown' of Japan.

That is one reason I posted it because it is interesting to see the most popular names. Though if I had my guess the top would have been Suzuki mostly because I don’t hear of Sato that much.

in my next life I demand to be born Japanese and named Takahasi, Yamamoto or Nakamura!

Incredible! Suzuki and Yamamoto, that's pretty impressive. My favorite is Nakamura.

I like the name Suzuki and Toshiro but it’s not on the list.
